Reduce Your Energy Bills
A properly maintained AC runs more efficiently. Book a chemical wash to restore up to 30% cooling efficiency.
About TNB Electricity Tariffs
Malaysia uses a tiered electricity pricing system from Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The more electricity you use, the higher the rate per kWh. This calculator uses the current domestic tariff structure:
| Usage Tier | Rate (RM/kWh) |
|---|---|
| 1 - 200 kWh | RM 0.218 |
| 201 - 300 kWh | RM 0.334 |
| 301 - 600 kWh | RM 0.516 |
| 601 - 900 kWh | RM 0.546 |
| > 900 kWh | RM 0.571 |
AC Power Consumption by Size
| AC Size | Approx. Wattage | Cost/Hour* |
|---|---|---|
| 1.0 HP | ~746W | ~RM 0.39 |
| 1.5 HP | ~1,119W | ~RM 0.58 |
| 2.0 HP | ~1,492W | ~RM 0.77 |
| 2.5 HP | ~1,865W | ~RM 0.96 |
| 3.0 HP | ~2,238W | ~RM 1.16 |
* Based on average TNB rate of ~RM 0.52/kWh
Tips to Reduce AC Energy Costs
- Regular maintenance: A clean AC runs 15-30% more efficiently. Schedule chemical wash every 6-12 months.
- Set temperature wisely: Each degree below 24°C increases energy consumption by about 3-5%.
- Use timer/schedule: Don't run AC when you're not home. Set it to turn on 30 minutes before you arrive.
- Keep doors/windows closed: Prevent cool air from escaping and warm air from entering.
- Consider inverter AC: Inverter units can save 30-50% on electricity compared to non-inverter models.
When to Service Your AC
If your AC is consuming more electricity than expected, it might need servicing. Signs include:
- AC running constantly but room doesn't cool properly
- Higher than usual electricity bills
- AC making unusual noises
- Water leaking from the unit
- Bad smell when AC is running
